The purpose of this article is to understand how stress, also called the 21st century disease, influences obesity in adulthood. This paper reviews whether it is an important factor in the incidence and prevalence of excess weight, or whether it is causing the difficulty of reversing obesity, which according to the World Health Organization has practically tripled in the last 45 years, with Mexico currently as the second place worldwide. Likewise, the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is reviewed, which is the most researched intervention of this kind, which can be beneficial to reduce stress and cardiometabolic risk in overweight patients and obesity.
