On the rise of extremist ideological movements and rethoric, this essay explores the role of social media in society’s political polarization and how the attitudes of tribalism have survived on our hyperconnected world thanks to the so-called “echo chambers”. It also exposes the risks and threats that these “echo chambers” represent to a full democratic exercise, and it emphasizes the importance of the exchange and confrontation of ideas, and of the role of art as an antidote for tribalism.
