Abstract

The present article promotes the understanding of the contemporary urban space, within a frame of reference that allows to glimpse the evolution of the knowledge, the regulation, the planning and the way of managing the cities. Understand the evolution of urban space as a process parallel to the evolution of urban knowledge, processes that demand constant attention and updating to respond to the needs of its inhabitants. The visualization of urban space as a product of the evolution of the quality of attention to the public and private needs of a society, which develops a level of awareness that demands greater citizen participation in the formulation of public policies that allow it to organize space that lives Culture, knowledge and information are consolidated as the fundamental qualities to reverse the urban deficit in Latin American cities lacking planning and urban design in the last decades. The public is ratified as a basic quality of urban space and a fundamental sociopolitical condition to guarantee the equity and necessary cohesion in the transformation and regeneration of Latin American cities. A culture of urban governance, allows to visualize new models of city management, the sectors necessarily have to learn to dialogue and coordinate to promote a model of city that allows the harmony between the public and the private.
