The paper deals with the theme of the public space, trying to focus on the way in which the urban spaces of the contemporary city serve the child population. As a start, the concepts of public and private are reviewed, linking them to the spaces of the city, showing that from the idea of the public and private spheres, urban spaces are linked to the daily life of people. Later, the evolution and transformation of the public space is outlined, pointing out how this is linked to the changes in the society life styles; this shows how the urban spaces for kids and all ages are characterized by a dilution of the public-private dichotomy, which has an impact on their individual development and also as a member of a social group.
