Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to identify hegemonic discourse elements in this film through the analysis of three action sequences. The methodological framework used in this analysis is based on the tripartite approach of in-depth hermeneutics proposed by the American sociologist, John B. Thompson (Thompson, 2002). Through this framework, the following questions are addressed: • First: What is hegemonic discourse? • Second: In what socio-political context is the film produced and premiered? • Third: Which hegemonic discourse elements are present throughout the three sequences of the film? • Fourth: How do the hegemonic discourse elements present in the film relate to the current socio-political context we live in?
