The time has come when it is difficult for us to conceive of life without computers and the Internet; however, the origin of an invention that has become so ubiquitous today is often unknown. In this article, a review is first made of how the first attempts to compact information in microchips arose until they reached the current electronic readers, such as Kindle or Papyre. Second, brief reference is made to the way in which the Internet and related technologies are transforming literature. In addition, a new way of considering the basic elements of the literary exercise, reader, author and editor, is proposed at the end.
