Abstract

The study of the mechanical properties of biomaterials is of great interest for their application in the area of tissue engineering. Most studies have focused on mechanical properties at the macrometer scale, however, analysis at the nanoscale has been limited. Biomaterials in the area of regenerative medicine have the ultimate goal of being in contact with cells and although they have a size in the microscopic scale, they interact at nanometer levels with the medium, for this reason it is of vital importance the thorough study of biomaterials at different scales, from the macrometer to the nanometer. In this brief review, the importance of mechanical properties at the nanometer level is presented.
