Abstract

The mortality of the family business in Mexico reaches more than 80% in the first 10 years and those that survive it 70% disappear after the death of the founder, only between 10 and 15% of the companies manage to reach the second and third generation. If we consider that family businesses represent 83% of the organizations in Mexico, it is worrying that most of them are not clear about the strategy for incorporating the next generation and their preparation, which allows them to have people prepared to achieve a transition adequate.

The present research seeks to identify the perception of young people who have experienced the process of joining the family business to know the practices that have been favorable for it, their training, family and work dynamics that had impact on it. Through an investigation with a descriptive exploratory design, semi-structured interviews were applied and a category analysis was carried out to learn about the training processes, the organizational structure, their preparation as future leaders and their vision to join the family business. It was possible to identify the mechanisms that most favored them to join the family business, suggestions for managing family relationships and if the current position and functions are preparing them to take the leadership of the company and the areas of opportunity in the future.
