Abstract

The article responds to a widespread concern not only in Mexico but worldwide: what do we mean when we talk about bullying? In addition to the above, we find that the diffusion of the term bullying throughout society is not supported by an understanding of the phenomenon of violence at school. It is fair to recognize the opportunity that a word coming from the school environment has such a presence in society; however, it is necessary to contribute to the understanding of the social dynamics in the school scenario. The article starts with the definition of the concept of bullying, briefly reviews the antecedents and contributions and ends with the most widespread criticism; the purpose is simple, to locate certain precisions to initiate the unavoidable debate on the epistemic, philosophical, social and psychological bases of violence at school.
