Abstract

This article analyzes the thought of Juan Bautista Alberdi and Justo Sierra, two of the most influential liberals of the 19th century in Latin America. It examines their perspectives on state development, highlighting similarities and differences in their approaches to political liberalism and their respective visions on progress and modernization in Argentina and Mexico. Through this analysis, the tensions between authority and liberty in the construction of modern nations are explored.
