Collective Photography Exhibition

Abstract

Vivir ciudad is a collective photography exhibition organized within the framework of the Cultural Encounter of the Jesuit University System, held at Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla. The exhibition brought together students from different universities within the System with two main purposes: to incorporate artistic expressions other than the performing arts into the event and to share young university students’ diverse perspectives on the cities they inhabit. Under the theme “How young people appropriate the urban space in which they live,” the photographs document different ways of experiencing, observing, and interpreting everyday surroundings. The images depict scenes related to social interaction, mobility, artistic expression, affective relationships, and the occupation of public space, creating a plural representation of young people’s urban experience. Taken together, the works form a visual collage of everyday life that reveals the diversity of perspectives through which young people establish relationships with their surroundings and construct meanings about the city. The exhibition also highlights different forms of symbolic and material appropriation of urban space and establishes a dialogue among photography, youth, identity, and everyday life. The works share the educational context of their authors’ affiliation with the Jesuit University System and offer a visual approach to different urban experiences in Mexico.
