What would be the point of the lack of human rights violations, the absence of corruption or the faithful commitment of employers to offer fair working conditions and to allow the worker to grow, if there were no resources to consume or if we would not have water to drink? The exhortation that makes us Pope Francis, in his second encyclical of the 2015, Laudato Si ‘, on the care of the common house, is an imminent necessity due to the current habits of consumption and the forecast of population growth that estimates that in 2050 the world population will reach 9.8 billion (United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, population Division, 2017).
To address this interesting topic, the link between corporate Social responsibility and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) will be reviewed and then understanding how these goals originated. The importance and transcendence of the objective of analysis for the future is then explored with the review of some actions in favor of this objective carried out by the parties involved: the corporations and the government. The actions of the corporations are reviewed through the number of corporations registered as participants in the Global Compact, while government actions are reported through the development of public policies focused on contributing to the achievement of the goals of this objective. Finally, a series of indicators are presented that allow the level of achievement to be identified with respect to this important topic and to envision a series of alternative possible ways to contribute to the achievement of a more promising future.
