Abstract

“Anthropocentrism” expression may have multiple ways to be understood, depending on context. Therefore, this essay explores several of them: etymology, encyclopedia definitions, common ways of understanding the term, content from a biological point of view considering the evolutionary process, what do philosophical thought gives us to understand the concept of “anthropocentrism”, what do the social sciences and history tell us about the alleged anthropocentrism reality in which we live. The paper concludes pointing out the nuances introduced in this concept from Christian religious point of view. On this basis it is concluded that “anthropocentrism” is a misleading concept, being that the most common definitions and understanding points, do not really seems to be a united concept as it should be; but an ideal concept, only a tendency, at most.
