Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the perception of manufacturing companies located in Guanajuato Puerto Interior regarding the umsca (t-mec in Spanish) and to understand their digitization strategies by investigating whether they have a digitization plan, the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, and the hiring of specialists in these technologies. To address these aspects, the instrument called “Survey on Employment, Production, and Digitization in the Manufacturing Industry 2022” (eepdim-2022, acronym in Spanish) was designed and applied in May 2022. The main findings highlight the diversity of approaches and preparedness for digitization among the surveyed companies, with 60% having a digitization plan. Likewise, there is variability in the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies within each sector, with some companies leading adoption by implementing a wide range of these technologies, while others focus on specific areas. This pattern is also evident in the hiring of specialists, where responses reflect different approaches and strategies for Industry 4.0 readiness, ranging from significant investments in technological experts to a greater adherence to traditional business models. Regarding the umsca, surveyed companies believe they are prepared, and they anticipate marginal impacts on their productivity and competitiveness due to labor and rules of origin changes.
